SAN MARCOS, Texas - UT Arlington made a valiant comeback effort after dropping the first two sets to Texas State, but was unable to secure the victory, falling in five sets at Strahan Coliseum on Tuesday night.
The loss drops the Mavericks to 13-6 this season with a 4-3 mark in Sun Belt play. The Bobcats improve to 11-9 this season with a 6-1 conference record.
UTA out-hit and out-blocked Texas State, but seven receiving errors and a combined 46 kills for the Bobcats' Jordan Kohl and Kelsey Weynand was ultimately too much for the Mavericks to overcome.
Players of the Match
Stacey Koch provided made played a key role on both ends of the court for UTA, registering 15 kills to go along with a career-high eight blocks. The senior opposite was especially potent offensively in the second set, notching a set-high five kills.
Zhanelle Geathers was also impressive in the match, putting up 11 kills to go along with eight blocks. Geathers provided a much-needed spark for UTA in the fifth set, coming away with four kills and two blocks.
Double-Double, Double Trouble
A pair of Maverick players registered double-doubles in the match. Qiana Canete registered her 11th double-double of the season with a team-high 17 kills to go along with 19 digs. Cassidy Wheeler's fifth double-double effort of the season came with 46 assists and 15 digs.
Stat Leaders
Caitlyn Cooney led the Mavericks in digs with 24, while also picking up eight assists and one kill. Assisting Cooney in the digging efforts was Mikail Russell who came away with 12 digs on the night.
Milestone Watch
UTA freshman Marisah Ingram continues to climb up the UTA all-time freshmen charts in total blocks and block assists. The Carthage native ended the match with three block assists, giving her 80 total blocks on the season and 76 block assists. These marks give the middle blocker the 8th most block assists and 9th most total blocks ever by a Maverick freshmen.

"I just still have to be proud of these kids because to come down here on Texas State's home court where it's very difficult to play and go down zero sets to two, we could've laid down and we didn't. The Mavericks will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Boone, N.C. to take on Appalachian State. The Mountaineers are currently second in the Sun Belt standings with a 5-0 mark, while also holding a 12-4 record overall.
