ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington men’s and women's cross country teams each earned 2014 All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the organization announced today.
It is the second straight season that the Mavericks’ women’s team earned the distinction and the second time in three years for the men to be honored. As a group, the UTA women, which won the 2014 Sun Belt Conference championship, secured a cumulative grade-point average of 3.13. The men, the league’s second-place finisher, posted a 3.30.
"We are certainly very proud of both of our teams," UTA coach John Sauerhage said. "They devote a tremendous amount of time and energy to their studies in addition to their training. This recognition illustrates that they are living up to the term student-athletes."
In order to qualify for the award, teams must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.00 or greater and competed in the NCAA Regionals as a team.
Individually, junior Eric Ojeda was one of 91 men named USTFCCCA All-Academic. Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finished in the top 15 finishers (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet.
Ojeda is an Interdisciplinary studies major, focusing on environmental stability, urban planning & architecture.
