ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington baseball unveiled its new clubhouse with a ribbon-cutting ceremony before Friday's rain-delayed game at Clay Gould Ballpark.
"I can't thank the people who were involved in this enough," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "It's been a long time and we will never take this facility for granted."
The complex features nearly 6,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art facilities that include a players clubhouse, an equipment and laundry room, a sports medicine training room and coaches' offices.
"My first thoughts are that it's very first class," UTA baseball supporter Roy Wilson said. "They went over and above what I thought it was going to be. It's top-shelf and we don't take a backseat to anybody in the metroplex or anywhere around."
The Mavericks made the most of the weather-delayed series against Troy, picking up two out of three to claim the series. UTA took the opening game of a Saturday doubleheader 15-4 before coming up one run short in a comeback attempt in the second game of the day. Sunday's rubber match saw UTA go down by six runs early, but the bats heated up as the Mavericks staged a comeback and took the final game of the series 10-7.
