ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington coach Diane Seymour has announced the 2015 Mavericks schedule, currently a slate that includes three tournaments and four games against opponents that made an appearance in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
"We set up a good schedule for us this fall to prepare ourselves to be our best at tournament time and throughout conference play," Seymour said. "We just tried to put a schedule together preseason-wise that won't wear us out too much with the travel, but that will also prepare us for conference play."
The Mavericks open up the 2015 campaign by hosting the Maverick Classic, which will include games against Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, Campbell and Grambling State. The season opener at College Park Center takes place on Aug. 28 when UTA hosts Campbell at 7 p.m.
UT Arlington travels to a pair of tournaments in Denver, Colo. and Fayetteville, Ark. In addition to taking on tournament host Denver, the Mavs face Villanova and Air Force. The Razorback Invitational will pit UTA against Arkansas, Northwestern State and Southeast Missouri.
The Sun Belt schedule will kick off on Sept. 18 with a home match against Louisiana. UTA's conference schedule features sixteen games, eight of which will be played at College Park Center. The Mavericks play a home-and-home series with Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Louisiana, UALR, ULM and Texas State, while playing once against Appalachian State, Arkansas State, South Alabama and Troy.
"You need to make sure you win those matches because you're only going to get one shot at them," Seymour added. "You need to take care of the people you play twice. Those opponents you should sweep, you need to sweep them to put yourself into the best possible position coming into the end of the year."
UT Arlington's 2014 season was one to remember as the squad recorded the program's best winning percentage since 2004 and the most wins since 2006. The Mavs fashioned a record of 25-9 (.735), with a 14-6 mark in Sun Belt Conference play.
