Mavericks Drop Road Match to Utah Valley

ARLINGTON, TX –The UT Arlington volleyball team fell to Utah Valley in a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 26-24, 25-21) on Thursday night at the Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah.

UTA jumped out to a strong start in the opening set, but Utah Valley quickly evened the score at 3-3. Despite keeping it close throughout, the Mavericks fell behind midset as a 3-0 Wolverine run shifted the momentum and secured the set for UVU.

In Set 2, UT Arlington battled to keep pace with Utah Valley early on, trailing narrowly at 4-3. The Wolverines began to pull away, prompting a Maverick timeout with UTA down 7-3. Following another timeout at 14-9, the Mavericks responded with a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to 20-16. Three straight kills from Camryn McMinn, Sophie Ocampo, and Alexis Bull helped build momentum for UTA as the team continued to chip away at the lead. Depsite UVU calling timeout, the Mavericks capitalized on Wolverine errors to close the gap to 23-24. UTA tied the set 24-24 after a 3-0 run, however, Utah Valley regrouped after calling a timeout, to take the set 26-24.

In Set 3, Utah Valley opened with a 3-0 run before UTA rallied to even the score 4-4. The Mavericks then put together their largest run of the night, a 5-0 stretch to bring the score 6-6. The Wolverines responded with a 3-0 run of their own to move ahead 12-9. Utah Valley continued to widen the gap to 20-15, forcing UTA to battle back once again. The Mavericks scored three straight points to fend off match point, but a service error ended the comeback as UVU secured the third set, 25-21.
