DESTIN, Florida - UT Arlington placed eighth Sunday as the Sun Belt Preview came to a close. The Mavericks shot a 21-over-par 873 in their first tournament of the season.
UTA finished up with an 8-over-par 292 in the third round. Only one squad, first-place Troy, broke par on a difficult final day at the Sandestin Raven Course.
"Today the course played more difficult for the entire field and the team handled it well," UT Arlington coach Stuart Deane said. "Josh Radcliff made great progress shooting even par for the round and ever-reliable Zach Galliford come through in the tough conditions with an even par as well, finishing low man of the team at tied for 14th.
"Finishing eighth for the team was not the goal for the week, but we now feel that the rust is dusted off and we have a good plan in place to sharpen up this week before we go to Cabo."
Galliford's 71 vaulted the junior up 10 spots after the second round with a final total of 3-over 216. Aaron Guanlao (T25, 219) placed second for the Mavs. Jake Greenspoon (T32, 222), Josh Radcliff (T46, 227) and Tanner Gore (T52, 229) were UTA's other team competitors. Andrew Sirowy (T35, 223) played as an individual.
UTA returns to action Oct. 4 at the Cabo Del Sol Invitational in Cabo, Mexico.
