ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington senior Craig Lautenslager secured his second Sun Belt Conference Men's Runner of the Week accolade of the season on Wednesday, the league office announced.
Lautenslager finished third among the 217 runners in the University Division of Alabama's Crimson Classic on Saturday. The senior posted an 8k clocking of 24:34.8, which was 20 seconds off the winning time.
As a team, UTA finished third among 24 teams with 147 points, behind only Kentucky (70), the No. 6 team in the Southeast Region, and Georgia (83), the 4th-ranked team in the South.
The field included 13 schools listed among the top 15 in the South, Southeast or South Central Regions. Among the regionally-ranked schools that UT Arlington defeated were Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia Tech, LSU, Rice and Tennessee.
The senior has a win and a third-place finish among his three starts, and has paced the Mavericks all three times he has raced. Lautenslager previously won the conference's weekly award on Sept. 21 after winning North Texas' Ken Garland Invitational in his first race of the season.
Lautenslager and his Mavericks teammates will be off this weekend prior to competing in the Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29, in Dothan, Ala.
