EL DORADO, Ark. - Senior Zach Galliford turned in an even par 72 and is among the top 10 individuals after the second day of competition at the Duck Commander Intercollegiate at Mystic Creek Golf Club.
As a team, the Mavericks sit four strokes behind 44th ranked Oregon State for fifth place in the 10-team field at 29-over par 605. UTA improved by four strokes over yesterday's first round with a 13-over par 301. At 15-over par, Little Rock leads the tournament by one stroke over three teams tied for second place heading into tomorrow's final round - Little Rock, Arkansas State and host ULM.
The field returns to the 7,064-yard, par 72 course for tomorrow's final round beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The tournament marks the final event of the fall season for the UTA men's golf program.
A native of Borth, Ceredigion, Wales, Galliford posted one of the most consistent rounds on the team. He opened the round with a birdie on the par 5 first hole, but went back to even par with a bogey on No. 5. Following six straight pars, Galliford birdied the 158-yard 12th hole but dropped back to even with a bogey on 17.
Junior Nick Barney is tied for 14th place at 7-over par after a tough day that saw him complete his round at 5-over par. Like Galliford, he started brightly with a pair of pars and a birdie on No. 3 to move to 1-under par. However, a string of four bogeys in five holes put him at 3-over before a birdie on No. 11. After a trio of birdies on 13 through 15, he recovered with three straight pars to finish his round.
Aaron Guanlao is in a tie for 18th place at 8-over par, while sophomore Tanner Gore moved up 16 places in the standings into a tie for 34th at 13-over. Will Dennis, playing as an individual, is tied for 42nd at 15-over and senior Josh Radcliff is in 55th place heading into tomorrow's final round.
