Oct. 7, 2016 ARLINGTON, Texas - One of the important preseason foundations for the UT Arlington men's basketball program concluded today with the final session of the team's annual week-long, military-style "Boot Camp."
The 5-day rigorous training program consisted of morning activities beginning at 5:50 a.m. and afternoon film sessions. Twice during the week, the team met for special physical challenge competitions.
"Boot camp this week has been extremely productive as we get ready for the long season ahead," said UTA head coach Scott Cross, in his 11th season in charge of the Mavericks program. "The week is designed to push the players' limits, help them learn how to deal with adversity and work through times when they feel uncomfortable.
"We have a great team unity and this week has been great to see the guys continue to bond, compete and work together as a team. Our team mantra is to be the toughest team on the court and we can really see that coming together throughout boot camp."
The Mavericks begin their traditional preparation for the upcoming season Monday with practice sessions designed to implement the program's offensive and defensive schemes, as well as improve individual skills.
"We'll work hard over the next few weeks to continue to implement the things we do offensively and defensively and get prepared for our Nov. 12 opener against Texas Southern," said Cross.
Following the opener against Texas Southern, which will serve as a highlight of the University's popular homecoming weekend, UTA hits the road for three games in five days at Minnesota, Florida Gulf Coast and Arkansas.
