Nov. 16, 2016 ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington men's basketball coach Scott Cross signed Fort Worth native Pedro Castro to a National Letter of Intent.
Castro, a 6-7 guard who will graduate from Brewer High School in the spring, averaged 14 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists as a junior and earned first team all-district honors for head coach Mike Hatch. He is rated as the No. 36 player in the state of Texas and played AAU basketball last summer for Texas Triumph Gold.
"Pedro was our first commitment for this class," said Cross. "He has tremendous skill to go along with his size and long wing span. He has a beautiful shot and has great vision as a passer. He can player multiple positions because of his size, skill and length combination. Pedro just needs strength. Once he gets stronger, he is going to be a nightmare for opposing teams."
Turner is the fourth (along with David Azore and Tim Holland and Davion Turner) signee for the UTA men's basketball program, which is selected by league coaches as the preseason favorite to win the Sun Belt Conference. The Mavericks have advanced to the postseason three times in the last five seasons and won a program-high 24 games twice during that period.
