VB: Qiana Canete Tabbed Second-Team All-Conference

ARLINGTON, Texas -- UT Arlington junior outside hitter Qiana Canete has been named second-team All-Sun Belt Conference in a voting of league coaches, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon.

Canete, a native of Copperas Cove, Texas, has had a strong third season with UTA. She leads the club in kills (354) and kills per set (2.88) as a six-position outside hitter. Canete ranks fifth in the Sun Belt in kills and 10th in digs.

In her career, Canete ranks among the school record holders in kills (14th; 1,072) and digs (1,248). In 2014, Canete had the second-most digs as a freshman in school history (480), before turning in 13 double-doubles as a sophomore in 2015.

The second-team All-SBC honor is the second of Canete's career, also earning the accolade in 2014. UTA has had six players earn All-SBC honors since joining the league in 2013-14. Overall, a 95 UTA student-athletes have been honored with all-league accolades in program history.

UT Arlington (16-15, 10-6 SBC) is hosting the 2016 Sun Belt Volleyball Championship at College Park Center, Nov. 18-20. UTA, the No. 4 seed, will face No. 5 seeded Little Rock at 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday at CPC. The tournament will open with No. 6 seed South Alabama and No. 3 seed Texas State at 12 p.m. on Friday.
