ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington ended an eight-match losing streak to Wichita State with a 4-2 decision on Saturday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center.

The Mavericks (10-5), pushing their home winning streak to eight matches, won their first over the Shockers since 2005. The Shockers fell to 9-8 for the season.

"It was a really great match," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "The guys played awesome and continued with a lot of momentum and determination at home. Wichita State is a really tough opponent. They have had us the last couple of times. It was really good to defend our home against them. We played very good in doubles, in the end of the day it was a key factor to get that point. It was a solid performance for the entire group who has been working really hard in practice."

Momentum swung in UTA's favor despite losing in No. 1 singles. Daniel Armengol and Jhonathan Gonzalez won their match 6-3, while Guanarteme Nuez and Mario Muniesa clinched the opening point with a 6-4 decision.

After Gonzales picked up UTA's second point with a 6-1, 7-5 win in No. 2 singles, it was Muniesa and Armengol who carried the Mavs to the win.

Muniesa bounced back from an opening-set loss to claim the final sets 6-3, 6-2, while Armengola won in No. 5 singles 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.

UTA hits the road on March 11-13 when it travels to Sacramento State for a team tournament. The Mavs then come home for five of the regular season's final five matches.
