ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington sophomore Agustina Serio was named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Serio was 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles as the No. 58 Mavericks went 2-1 during the week, the lone loss coming to No. 22 Wichita State.
"Agustina is a big part of our success this year," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "She is being very consistent with her level of playing and I'm sure she will continue being a great asset for years to come."
Serio, a native of Tandil, Argentina, helped UTA bounce back from its road loss to the Shockers by helping sweep weekend matches against UTSA and Memphis.
The sophomore opened the weekend by securing the doubles point against the Roadrunners with a 6-2 win, playing with Valeria Lopez.
In singles, she was even more impressive, clinching both matches for UTA. Serio won against UTSA in a 6-4, 6-4 result in the No. 3 position. She continued the momentum against the Tigers, winning 6-2, 6-4 on Sunday.
The Mavericks have won 22 consecutive matches at the UTA Tennis Center and close their home schedule on Thursday against SMU. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. Admission is free.
