ARLINGTON, Texas - Craig Lautenslager became the second straight UT Arlington Maverick to win the Sun Belt Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week award, the league office announced Thursday.
The senior from Nelson, New Zealand, won the individual title at North Texas' Ken Garland Invitational on Saturday. In a field of 51 runners, he placed first by eight seconds with a 4-mile time of 19:55.2. The meet included four teams ranked in the top 15 in their respective regional rankings. The Mavericks placed second in the six-team field.
He redshirted the 2015 cross country season, and was competing in his first college meet since the 2014 NCAA South Central Regional.
The Mavericks, listed fifth in this week's South Central Region ranking, are off this weekend. UTA will return Friday, Sept. 30, at the prestigious Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational.
