ARLINGTON, Texas -- UTA men's tennis continued its winning ways and extended its streak to six matches with a 6-1 decision over Sacramento State Saturday at the UTA Tennis Center.
UTA (6-1) improved to 6-0 in Arlington this season and plays host to crosstown rival SMU Thursday before a two-match road trip. Sacramento State evened its record at 5-5.
The Mavericks set the tone early and grabbed the doubles point with victories from No. 2 Mario Muniesa and Marcos Sanz, and No. 3 Daniel Armengol and Guanarteme Nuez. Both matchups ended in a 6-3 decision. Jhonathan Gonzalez and Mauricio Del Rio were edged 5-4 in the No. 1 position.
UTA needed that momentum boost heading into a tough singles round. Four of the six played were stretched to three sets. Sacramento State earned its lone point in the No. 1 spot, defeating Nuez 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Gonzalez and Del Rio recovered from their previous loss to each lift UTA, 6-3, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-3, respectively.
UTA returns to the UTA Tennis Center for a Sunday double-header against Oral Roberts and Prairie View A&M. The first of the pair is set for 10 a.m. Follow @UTAMAVS on Twitter for updates on impending weather.
