Maverick men and women set to compete Saturday in College Station
ARLINGTON, Texas – The UTA men's and women's cross country teams will get a chance to race on the NCAA South Central Regional Course this weekend when the squads compete at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station, Texas.
Â
Texas A&M's Dale Watts cross country course, the site for UTA's final regular season meet, will host the regional meet on Nov. 9. Saturday's race is the fifth of the season for the Mavericks, and the fourth time the team will compete in the state of Texas.
Â
In all, 23 schools will have teams in College Station. Included in that group are 10 schools currently ranked in the top 15 in the men's South Central Regional rankings, including No. 6 UTA. The other ranked schools in the field are: No. 2 Texas, No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 Rice, No. 8 North Texas, No. 9 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, No. 10 McNeese State, No. 11 UT Rio Grande Valley, No. 12 Louisiana and No. 14 Stephen F. Austin.
Â
The women's field includes eight regionally-ranked squads from the South Central. That group includes: No. 2 SMU, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 5 TCU, No. 7 Texas State, No. 8 LSU, No. 10 UT Rio Grande Valley and No. 14 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Â
"This meet is a tremendous chance to see how we stack up against the top teams in the region," UTA coach John Sauerhage said. "And it also gives us an opportunity to run on the regional course which will give our runners a strong comfort level that will come in handy next month. And ultimately, this is our last race before conference, so we need to be ready to compete."
Â
Leading the way for the UTA men is Justin Domangue, last week's Sun Belt Conference Runner of the Week. The women's side continues to make progress after being hampered by injuries over the season's opening month and a half.
Â
The men will compete in the 8k race at 9 a.m., while the women will run a 6k course at 9:45 a.m. Live results will be available here.
