TULSA, Okla. - Playing some of his best tennis in his Maverick career, senior
Guanarteme Nuez advanced into the main draw of the 2018 ITA All-American tournament on Tuesday with a pair of wins, including a win over the No. 85-ranked player in the nation.
Nuez goes his day started with a 6-4, 7-5 win against NC State's Ivan Saveljic before downing No. 85 Sven Lah of Baylor in straight sets.
"I am so happy for how Teme has been playing over these last few weeks," UTA coach
Diego Benitez said. "He has faced some of the toughest competition of his career and has excelled in every match. This is a big accomplishment for the Mavericks to have representation in the Main Draw of this tournament."
In addition to vying for the All-American national title, players will be competing to secure a berth into the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which takes place November 7-11, in Surprise, Arizona. Singles quarterfinalists, consolation singles champion and finalist, along with doubles semifinalists and consolation doubles champion and finalist advance to the end of fall national championship.
