SAN MARCOS, Texas - After a pair of five-set thrillers went the Maverick way over the weekend, UT Arlington was on the other side of it Tuesday night with Texas State coming back from a two-set deficit to top UTA in a battle of the top two teams in the Sun Belt West Division.
The Mavericks built up a 2-0 lead behind a 25-20 and 25-22 result to get things started. However, a big 25-10 win by the Bobcats in the third stole momentum away, momentum they would carry for the remainder. UTA saw the end of its three-match winning streak to go to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the league. Texas State stayed unbeaten in the Sun Belt at 5-0 and are 14-5 overall.
Zhanelle Geathers was the lone Maverick in double figures offensively, but finished with a season-high 18 kills, hitting .308 on offense.
Alex Janak ran her double-double streak to four matches in a row for her eighth overall with 25 assists and 11 digs.
Madison Hill, the league leader in hitting percentage, notched nine kills with a .333 percentage, finishing with just one attacking error.
