ARLINGTON - After a two-week break from the fall schedule, UTA women's tennis returns to the court on Friday when it travels to the SMU Invitational, the finale tuneup before the ITA Texas Regional on Oct. 18.Â
The Mavericks have had a strong fall slate with Almudena Boza leading the pack with a 6-1 record. UTA won three singles titles in its last time out at the Rice Invitational, and hope to replicate the performance in the three-day tournament hosted at the SMU Tennis Complex / Turpin Stadium and Brookshire Family Pavilion.Â
"The ladies have been playing great this season and we have had some great success against good competition thus far," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "This tournament is always a challenge as it features some of the best competition in the Texas Region, and opponents that we may get to see in the regionals. I look forward us to continue to put to practice what we've done during the break, and be competitive throughout the weekend."
Boza was joined by Lucia Natal and Carla Pons as winner of their respective flights in Houston, while the tandem of Boza and Pons also advanced to their respective doubles final before falling to a squad from South Florida.Â
All five Mavericks that have been competing this fall are at .500 or better. Natal is 4-1, while Momoka Horiguchi is 3-1. Pons is just behind Boza for the team lead in singles with five.
