Box Score HOUSTON – Despite a pair of singles victories from Enrique Pardo and Miguel Cabrera, the UT Arlington men's tennis team fell to Rice on Friday, 5-2.
 
Pardo picked up his team-leading seventh win of the season on court #2, defeating Eric Rutledge 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). On court #6, freshman Cabrera – who just joined the team earlier this month – secured his first-career triumph with a 6-2, 2-6, 12-10 decision over Campbell Salmon.
 
In doubles action, Pardo teamed up with Eduard Simo to take down Eric Rutledge and Adam Oscislawski, 6-4, on court #2, forcing the doubles point to be decided on court #1. On that court, Guanarteme Nuez and Mauricio Rio battled, but ultimately just fell short, 7-5, to Sumit Sarkar and Jacob Eskeland.
 
The doubles triumph not only concluded a 2-0 day for Pardo, but also extended his and Simo's doubles record on the year to a perfect 4-0 – the most doubles victories for a UTA pair.
 
The Mavericks are back in action Sunday for their home opener when they take on UT Permian Basin at 11 a.m. before turning around to battle Prairie View A&M at 1 p.m.
