ARLINGTON, Texas – Three Lady Mavericks scored in double figures as the UTA women's basketball team led start to finish in a 69-45 win over Georgia State on Saturday at College Park Center.
The Lady Mavs shot 45.0 percent (27-of-60) from the floor, 50 percent (10-of-20) from long distance and went 5-of-6 (83.3 percent) from the charity stripe, while the Panthers were forced into 20 turnovers and hit just 14-of-45 (31.1 percent) shots from the field and 4-of-18 (22.2 percent) attempts from behind the arc.
With the win, UTA improves to 14-5 overall (6-2 SBC), while GSU falls to 10-9 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.
Cierra Johnson picked up her second double-double of the season with a team-high 15 points and 11 rebounds. She also added six assists and four steals. C. Johnson's performance also moved her into the No. 12 spot on UTA's career scoring list (1,180 points).
Brooke Alexander went 5-of-10 from the field and knocked down four three-pointers to finish with 14 points.
Claire Chastain added 13 points and a pair of assists, while
Terryn Milton registered with eight points.
Katie Ferrell chipped in with eight assists and seven boards.
UTA opened the game with a 14-4 run and remained in control the rest of the afternoon. The Lady Mavs increased their lead to as many as 24 points (4th - 3:12), before picking up the 69-45 victory.
The Lady Mavs return to the court on Tuesday, Jan. 29 when they travel to Lafayette, La. to take on Louisiana in SBC action. Tip-off for the contest is set for 6:30 p.m.
