Box Score BEAUMONT, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team wrapped up the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational on Sunday with two Mavericks coming away with flight championships and two doubles team winning both doubles flights.
Miguel Cabrera and
Solano Caffarena both won their respective brackets, while
Alan Sau and
Ricardo Alban were both runners-up in their flights.
In doubles play,
Alan Sau and
Alejandro Hayen won the Flight One championship over Lamar's Mayr and Vila Antuna 6-4. In Flight Two, Cabrera and
Daichi Akiyoshi defeated Tyler Junior College's Patel and Viera 6-4 to win the championship.
The morning began with the Flight One championhip where
Alan Sau took on Lamar's Axel Vila Antuna. Vila Antuna got the best of Sau winning in two tough sets 7-5, 7-6 (7). In Flight Two, Cabrera got the championships rolling with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Paton Canal from Lamar.
In Flight Three,
Solano Caffarena defeated Lamar's Joshua Taylor 6-2, 6-4 to win the championship. The tournament wrapped up with
Ricardo Alban taking on UTSA's Kaito Nishihara with Alban emerging victorious with a 6-2, 6-2 win. The win secured second place in the Flight Four Round Robin tournament.
The Mavericks will be back in action next weekend (Oct. 18 – 20) when they travel to Houston for the Rice Invitational.
