ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington volleyball team (11-9, 3-5 SBC) had trouble closing out sets in a 3-1 loss to South Alabama (25-22, 19-25, 20-25, 19-25) on Friday.
Kylie Jedlicka led all players with her eighth double-double of the season (20 kills, 11 digs).
Petra Manderson added 12 kills, while
Madison Hill and
Brooke Townsend chipped in with nine kills each.
South Alabama (15-6, 6-1 SBC) took a quick 3-0 lead in the first set. However, UTA responded with a 3-0 run of its own. The Mavs never trailed again in the set, as Jedlicka led the way with five kills. Jedlicka also scored the set point that ended a 5-0 South Alabama run.
The Jaguars outhit the Mavs .265-.100 in the second set, but they couldn't get much separation from the Mavs until going on a 6-0 run to take a 19-14 lead late in the frame. Jedlicka recorded another five kills in the set.
Jedlicka notched five kills for the third straight set, but the Jaguars again pulled away at the end of the set to take a 2-1 lead. South Alabama finished the set on a 7-4 run.
South Alabama went up 10-5 to start the third set. The Mavs got to within two points, but couldn't take the lead as the Jaguars wrapped up the victory.
