LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The UT Arlington men's golf team posted the third-best final round in the field on Tuesday, and junior
Paul Gonzalez secured his third top-10 finish of the season as the Mavericks wrapped up the fall portion of their 2019-20 schedule with a 13th-place showing at the Little Rock Classic.
Â
Gonzalez tied for 8th place in the field of 87 with an even-par 216 total following a final-round 73 (+1) – his third par-or-better 54-hole score in four events this season. He was one of three UTA members who signed for final rounds of 73 along with
Daniel Cronje and
Kyle Cox, with
Caleb Hicks (75) and
Zakary Jones (77) rounding out the Mavs' scoring.
Â
After uncharacteristically posting their two worst rounds of the fall slate on Monday, the Mavs bounced back with a 294 (+6) final round for a 906 total, which is still a deviation from what UTA has done through its first three tournaments of the year. Illinois State and Campbell tied for the team championship with totals of 872.
Â
Jones and Cronje both finished with three-round totals of 231, while Cox and Hicks each posted 233 totals. Tuesday marked the first round in 15 fall opportunities that UTA didn't have a single player break par. The Mavs came into their final fall event averaging a team score of 287, but finished with a 302 average over this week's three rounds.
Â
Gonzalez rebounded from – what for him – was an off week with the aforementioned top-10 showing. He finished tied for the 3rd-best par-5 scoring average in the field for the week at -6, while his -1 performance on par-3 holes was tied for the 4th-best average in the field. Additionally, Gonzalez's 11 birdies led UTA and were tied for the 6th-most in the field.
Â
This was the final tournament for UTA until the spring as the Mavs will next return to competitive action in mid-February at Houston's All-American Intercollegiate.

THE NEW HOME OF UTA GOLF: Texas Rangers Golf Club
The recently-opened state-of-the-art Texas Rangers Golf Club is the new home of the UT Arlington's men's and women's golf programs. The world's only Major League Baseball-branded golf course, TRGC is the result of a $24 million renovation and updated routing of the former Chester W. Ditto Golf Course at Brown Boulevard and Collins Street, just a few miles north of UTA's campus. The Home of UTA Golf was designed by UTA alumni John Colligan and Trey Kemp of Arlington-based Colligan Golf Design. It features an expansive 23-acre practice area, and a new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse – set to open in early 2020 – will feature a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms and numerous rental and event spaces.
