BOONE, N.C. – The UT Arlington volleyball team snapped its 4-game losing streak with a 3-0 (25-14, 27-25, 25-22) sweep of Appalachian State on Friday night in the Holmes Center.
With the win, the Mavs improved to 12-10 overall and 4-6 in league play, while App State falls to 9-13 on the season and 5-4 in Sun Belt play.
Kylie Jedlicka led UTA with a match-high 16 kills. The senior also hit .483 with seven digs and a block.
Brooke Townsend added 12 kills with a .526 hitting percentage, while
Madison Hill chipped in with eight kills and three blocks. Hill is now one kill shy of 1,000 for her career.
Madelyn St. Germain finished with a match-high 13 digs, while
Jessica Stancliff and
Kylee Kapp tallied 23 assists and 14 assists, respectively.
UTA outhit the Mountaineers .365-.186 and registered 45 kills to App State's 43.
In the opening set, the Mavs used a 5-1 run to jump out to a 13-7 lead. UTA pulled away and took the final three points to post a 25-14 victory in the opening frame.
The second set featured six ties before the Mavericks broke a 22-22 tie with back-to-back points to take a 24-22 edge. App State got a pair of kills to even the score at 24-24, before a kill by Hill put UTA in front 25-24. After the Mountaineers tied the set for the 16th time (25-25), the Mavericks used a service error and service ace to take the set 27-25.
App State used a 4-0 run to jump out to an early 9-3 advantage in the third set. The Mavericks chipped away and eventually tied the score at 13-13 on a kill from Townsend. Trailing 20-17, the Mavs used a 6-1 run to take a 23-21 advantage. App State got within a point on a kill, but UTA used a pair of attack errors to win the set 25-22 and secure the sweep.
UTA will be back in action on Sunday against Sun Belt East Division leader Coastal Carolina (18-3, 8-1 SBC). First serve is scheduled for 11:30 p.m. CT.
