ST. THOMAS, Virgin Islands – Marie Benson finished with 15 points as the UTA women's basketball team fell to No. 1 Oregon on Day 2 of the 2019 Paradise Jam on Friday afternoon (Nov. 29) at the University of the Virgin Islands' Sports and Fitness Center.
With the loss, the Lady Mavericks fall to 4-2 on the year, while the Ducks improve to 6-0.
Benson shot 4-of-11 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line to record a team-high 15 points. She also added four boards and a pair of assists.
Claire Chastain added 10 points and three rebounds.
Terryn Milton finished with six points, three rebounds and a pair of assists, while
Misty Dossey chipped in with five points and a block.

Katie Ferrell finished with four points each.
The Lady Mavs struck first when
Aysia Evans got a steal and went coast-to-coast for a layup and the first points of the afternoon. UTA took a 12-11 lead on a Chastain offensive rebound and tip-in with 2:30 left in the opening period. The Ducks would close the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 20-12 lead after 10 minutes of play.
Oregon continued to pour it on in the second quarter, opening the period with a 15-2 run and eventually outscoring UTA 30-12 and taking a 50-24 lead at the intermission.
The Lady Mavs came out swinging in the second half, opening the third quarter on an 8-2 run (52-32). Oregon went on to outscore UTA 23-9 over the final seven minutes of the third to take a 75-41 lead and went on to pick up the 91-54 win.
The Lady Mavericks will be back in action tomorrow afternoon (Nov. 30) at noon when they take on Oklahoma State in their final game of the 2019 Paradise Jam.
