CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The UTA baseball suffered a 5-1 loss at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi in the 2019 season opener at Chapman Field on Friday night.
The Mavs were led by redshirt senior
Will Olson, who finished 2-for-4 with homer and an RBI.
Zac Cook also had a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-5.
Junior College transfer
Kody Bullard got the start for the Mavericks and pitched 6.0 innings, giving up four hits and a run. He also racked up six Ks in his debut for the Mavs.
The Islanders got on the board first, after a sacrifice bunt followed by an error allowed the runner from second base.
The Mavs tied things at 1-1 in the sixth inning, thanks to a leadoff solo shot down the right field line from Olson.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi responded quickly, scoring four runs off a pair of singles and a double in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the eventual season-opening victory.
