ABILENE, Texas – Thanks to dominant pitching and some timely hitting, the UTA baseball team picked up a 2-0 road win at Abilene Christian on Tuesday night at Crutcher Scott Field.
With the win, the Mavericks improved to 6-4 overall, while ACU falls to 4-4 on the season.
The game was scoreless until two outs in the eighth inning when
Anthony Dominguez sent a 1-1 pitch over the wall in right field for his team-leading third homer of the season. UTA then added an insurance run in the ninth when
David Renning scored on
Justin Marino's single to center field.
David Moffat got the start for the Mavs and surrendered just one base hit in three innings for UTA. The Mavericks sent
Cade Winquest (2.0 IP),
Michael Wong (2.0),
Tristan Tom (1.0) and closer
Andrew Gross to the bump to complete the shutout. UTA's arms limited the ACU offense to just three hits in the win. Gross registered his third save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
The Mavs will return the field March 1-3 when they take on Incarnate Word in a 3-game set in San Antonio.
