BULLET POINTS
- This will be the second-straight season that UTA and Georgia State meet in the Sun Belt Tournament Final. In last year's championship game, the 2nd-seeded Panthers defeated the 4th-seeded Mavericks, 74-61.
Â
- UTA has one all-time NCAA Tournament appearance (2008), and that came after the Mavs won the Southland Conference Tournament as a 7 seed.
Â
- Georgia State won both meetings during the regular season: 63-58 on Jan. 3 in Arlington, and 77-71 on Jan. 26 in Atlanta. In the game at UTA, the Mavs shot just a season-worst .080 percent (2-25) from 3-point range, but still had the contest as a two-point game with 30 seconds remaining.
Â
- In the game at GSU, UTA erased a 16-point 1st-half deficit, took a four-point lead in the 2nd half, but couldn't hold on down the stretch. UTA posted a +18 rebound margin (48-30) – its largest positive rebounding differential in a loss in any game since at least 2011-12. The Mavs pulled down a season-high 21 offensive boards.
Â
- In both games, UTA held First Team SBC selection D'Marcus Simonds below his season scoring average, including a season-low one point on 0-9 shooting at GSU. Only two other times in the junior's collegiate career has he been held to one or zero points – his second career game at Auburn as a freshman (0), and later that same season against ULM (1).
Â
- UTA enters action on a five-game winning streak – tied for its longest of the season. The Mavs also had a five-game winning streak heading into the meeting in Atlanta with Georgia State.
Â
- The Mavs held Georgia Southern – which came in averaging 83 points per game – to a season-low 58 points (previous: 64) in the semifinal contest. UTA once again held Sun Belt Player of the Year Tookie Brown below his scoring average with just eight points; in three games this year against UTA, Brown scored just 23 total points.
Â
- Patrick Mwamba (10 points) reached double-figure points in the semifinal for the first time since the season opener when he scored 13 against UT Tyler; his 10 points were the most against a D-I opponent this year.
Â
- Andres Ibarguen went 6-6 from the floor in the semifinal (10-10 over his past two games) – with the six conversions tied for the 9th-most makes in a game without a miss in program history.
Â
- Georgia State leads the all-time series with UTA, 8-7, and has won three in a row and four of five.
