Timely Hitting Secures Mavs Series Sweep

ATLANTA, Ga. – Locked in a pitcher's duel for seven innings, a pair of late two-run home runs gave the UTA baseball team a 4-2 win and a series sweep over Georgia State on Sunday at the GSU Baseball Complex.

The game's starting pitchers combined to strike out 12 batters. UTA's David Moffat contributed seven of those strikeouts and allowed just five hits and one earned run in 7.1 innings of work. GSU's Trey Horton didn't allow any earned runs in his six innings on the mound.

The UTA (15-9, 4-2 SBC) offense got going shortly after Horton left the game. Trailing 1-0 in the top of the eighth, Cade Winquest pinch ran for Justin Marino. Two batters later, Connor Aube hit his first home run of the season to give UTA a 2-1 lead.

GSU (7-17, 2-4) answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the innings.

Again tied and facing the prospect of extra innings, Anthony Dominguez opened the ninth by reaching first base on a fielding error. Two outs later, Dylan Paul hit his second home run of the season to give UTA the lead for good.

As he did Saturday, Andrew Gross locked things down in the ninth to secure the Mavs' third consecutive victory.

After the sweep, UTA will hit the road again Tuesday for a game at Dallas Baptist. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

BARK IN THE PARK…ALL SEASON LONG
UT Arlington Department of Athletics officials announced that all 2019 home baseball games at Clay Gould Ballpark and softball games at Allan Saxe Field will be dog-friendly, thanks to a generous partnership with upstart Lone Star Friends of Animals to create 'Casey's Corner.'

Dogs which are leashed, at least six months old and with the proper vaccinations will be permitted at all UTA baseball and softball games throughout the season.
Casey's Corner is a grassy area between the baseball and softball fields, along the 3rd-base line of the baseball stadium. Multiple pet waste stations have been set up, and the space provides fans and dog owners an opportunity to walk and sit with their canine companions while taking in all the Maverick action.
