ARLINGTON, Texas – The No. 29 Mavs erased another deficit to clinch the series win and extend their winning streak to eight games in a 7-3 victory over Louisiana on Friday at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Trailing 3-2 going into the seventh inning, the Mavs (27-13, 13-4) scored a run on consecutive wild pitches to take the lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Matt Cavanagh,
Zac Cook and
Anthony Dominguez each drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to help UTA pull away and secure the win.
Wyatt Divis (3-0) picked up the win for the Mavs, going 1.2 innings in relief. He struck out one batter and didn't surrender any runs.
To start the game,
Boone Montgomery and Dominguez each reached base in the bottom of the first to set the table for
Andrew Miller's sac fly that gave the Mavs a 1-0 lead.
Louisiana also put two runners on to start the top of the second. The Ragin' Cajuns cashed in with an Orynn Veillon single that gave Louisiana a 2-1 lead.
It didn't take long for UTA to respond, as
Josh Minjarez sent the fourth pitch of the bottom of the second over the left field wall to tie the game at two apiece.
The seesaw tipped back in the Ragin' Cajuns' favor in the top of the fourth. With two men on, Veillon reached base on an error, which scored a run and gave Louisiana a 3-2 lead.
The teams will close the series out at Clay Gould Ballpark at 2 p.m. Saturday.
