ARLINGTON, Texas – Little Rock snapped UTA's six-game conference winning streak Friday night with a 13-3 win at Clay Gould Ballpark.
UTA (12-18, 6-4 SBC) got production from the top of its lineup, as
Connor Aube and
Will Olson went a combined 6-for-10 with an RBI and two runs, but the Mavs couldn't get much else going on offense.
The Trojans got to starter
Cade Winquest early, loading the bases before the Mavs recorded an out. Winquest walked home the first run. In the next at-bat, Ramon Padilla hit a sac fly to right field to bring Little Rock's second run across the plate.
Winquest continued to work, but the Trojans scored a pair of two-out runs to take a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the first.
Aube responded immediately with a double down the left field line.
Zac Cook's single brought Aube home, but that was all the damage the Mavs could do in the first.
Both teams' bats went quiet until the fifth inning. Troy Alexander drove Garrett Scott home with a single to give Little Rock a 5-1 lead.
Andrew Miller made it a three-run game when his sac fly got Aube across for the second time.
The Trojans did more damage in the top of the seventh with a sac fly to give themselves a 6-2 lead.
Little Rock added two runs in the eighth, then five in the ninth inning.
UTA and the Trojans will hit the field Saturday for Game 2 of the three-game set. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
