@UTAMavsWGolf Announces 2019-20 Schedule

ARLINGTON – Closing in on just the third season in program history, the UT Arlington women's golf team will embark upon a nine-tournament regular season in 2019-20 as Mavericks head coach Catherine Matranga announced the team's schedule on Wednesday.

The Mavs tee off their season in mid-September with the first of five fall events prior to closing out the docket in late October. The spring slate opens back up with the first event getting underway in mid-February before finishing up with the fourth event in early April (a fifth spring regular-season tournament could be added at a later date).

Following the regular-season slate, UTA will compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championship in late April once again from LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.

UTA will be tested in the early stages of the season as three of the first four events will be held on links the program has yet to compete on in its short history. Nevertheless, the final five events will provide plenty of familiarity for the Mavericks as they teed it up in all five of them during the 2018-19 season.

"I'm really excited to get started with the 2019-20 year," stated head coach Catherine Matranga. "We have a good mix of familiar courses and tournaments along with some great new additions to our schedule."

Below is a breakdown of each event on the 2019-20 calendar currently:

SEPT. 15-16: MARILYNN SMITH/SUNFLOWER INVITATIONAL
Colbert Hills Golf Club
Manhattan, Kan. | Hosted By Kansas State
The first of four brand-new events on UTA's schedule, Kansas State won its home tournament in only two rounds of play back in the 2017-18 season after the final round was called due to weather conditions. This will be the first time the tournament has been held since the 2017-18 season.

SEPT. 28-29: WYOMING COWGIRL DESERT INTERCOLLEGIATE
Classic Club
Palm Desert, Calif. | Hosted By Wyoming
UTA has played in this event the prior two seasons and will look to continue to improve upon its play. The Mavs tied for 9th in 2018-19 after shooting 29 shots better than their 11th-place finish in 2017-18.

OCT. 7-9: AGGIE INVITATIONAL
New Mexico State Golf Course
Las Cruces, New Mexico | Hosted By New Mexico State
The site of the 1988 NCAA Women's Golf Championship, the Mavericks will head to New Mexico State's home course – built in 1961 – to take part in their annual tournament for the first time in program history. UTEP took home 1st place last season with a final team score of 879 (+15).

OCT. 14-15: LADY RED WOLVES CLASSIC
Sage Meadows Golf Club
Jonesboro, Ark. | Hosted By Arkansas State
The Mavericks will take part in the final brand-new event on their schedule this season as they head to Arkansas State to play on the Red Wolves' home course at Sage Meadows Golf Club. The Red Wolves did not hold the tournament last season, but won their home event in the 2017-18 season.

OCT. 27-29: LITTLE ROCK WOMEN'S GOLF CLASSIC
Diamante Country Club
Hot Springs Village, Ark. | Hosted By Little Rock
UTA concludes the fall portion of the schedule with a return trip to Little Rock. The Mavs have competed in this event the past two seasons and improved upon their 15th-place finish two years ago with a 13th-place showing last season. Rising junior Madigan Murray finished with a 229 total for the tournament and led the way among returning Mavs with a tie for 23rd overall.

FEB. 10-11: TEXAS STATE INVITATIONAL
Plum Creek Golf Club
Kyle, Texas | Hosted By Texas State
The Mavericks tee off the spring slate by revisiting an event where last spring for the first time in program history, all five members of the team shot in the 70s in the same round – accomplishing the feat in both the 1st and 2nd rounds. After shooting a team total of 926 in their first trip to this event in 2017-18, UTA improved upon its performance by securing a 917 showing last season.

MAR. 1-3: KIAWAH ISLAND SPRING CLASSIC
Osprey Point Golf Club | Oak Point Golf Club
Kiawah Island, S.C. | Hosted By Charleston
UTA will head back to South Carolina for the third season in a row and will look to improve upon their best overall performance in program history last year. In one of the largest fields in college golf, the Mavs shot a 904 three-round total, tying the best 54-hole score in program history last spring. Murray tied the best round in program history with a 3-under 69 in the 2nd round, and rising junior Sydney Garber recorded a career-low 70 in the final round, helping UTA finish in a tie for 17th place in the 49-team tournament.

MAR. 16-17: HBU HUSKY INVITATIONAL
Riverbend Country Club
Sugarland, Texas | Hosted By Houston Baptist
Competing in the event for the first time last year, the Mavericks will look to elevate their play after posting a 960 three-round total and securing a 9th-place finish overall. Murray capped the week as UTA's low performer with a 237, helping her post a tie for 22nd place.

APR. 6-7: WYOMING COWGIRL CLASSIC
Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club
Maricopa, Ariz. | Hosted By Wyoming
UTA kicks off April with the last event of the regular season as the Mavericks head to Arizona to take part in Wyoming's Cowgirl Classic for the third time in program history. The Mavs will aim to continue their trend of moving up the leaderboard as they finished in 19th place with a 923 total in 2017-18, before finishing in 16th place with a 916 total last season in the 20-team event. Rising sophomore Abigail Adams led the way for the Mavericks last season as she shot a 224 (+8) and was the Mavs' low member, finishing tied for 22nd. Adams and Murray did not shoot anything worse than bogey in all three rounds of the event last season.

APR. 19-21: SUN BELT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
LPGA International
Daytona Beach, Florida
After coming in 8th place with a 925 three-round total in their first-ever conference championship appearance in the 2017-18 season with just a four-member lineup, the Mavericks proved the program is progressing with a 7th-place finish and a 910 total in last year's conference championship. This year the event will be held at the same venue, providing plenty of familiarity for the Mavs to continue their development as a program.
