WACO, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team will begin their spring schedule tomorrow (Jan. 18) when they travel to Waco to take on the 5
th ranked Baylor Bears at 6:00 p.m. at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
"The preseason has gone really well for us," said head coach
Diego Benitez. "We are getting a lot of good reps in and the guys look to be in great shape. Baylor is a top national team and our guys are eager to compete and leave everything out on the court."
UTA NOTES
• The Mavericks had a successful fall season as six of their eight players finished tournament play with records above .500.
Alan Sau Franco led the way with a 7-3 record
• UTA has already played quality competition this year, as
Angel Diaz and
Miguel Cabrera have both defeated ranked opponents in the fall. At the ITA Texas Regional Championships, Diaz took down 39
th ranked Parker Wynn (Texas Tech), while Cabrera defeated 14
th ranked Matias Soto (Baylor). Cabrera will look to duplicate his success this weekend.

Alejandro Hayen, a 2018 NJCAA All-American in singles and doubles, will look to take the next step during his senior year after finishing 12-7 in singles matches a year ago.

SCOUTING NO. 5 BAYLOR
The Bears boast five ranked singles players in No. 19 Sven Lah, No. 59 Matias Soto, No. 70 Adrian Boitan, No. 95 Constantin Frantzen and No. 111 Ryan Dickerson. In doubles action, Lah and Frantzen lead the Bears with a No. 20 national ranking while Dickerson and Soto are No. 25. Lah pairs with Dickerson to be the No. 37 tandem while Soto and Frantzen are No. 45.BU leads the series against the Mavericks, 15-5. BU is on 13-match winning streak against UTA dating back to 1997.

Following the season-opener, the Mavericks will head back to the friendly confines of the UTA Tennis Center for four straight home matches, beginning with a double-header on Jan. 25 against Cameron and Prairie View A&M.
