ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team picked up their first wins of the season on Saturday, defeating Cameron 5-1 and Prairie View A&M 7-0 in double-header action.

"The guys had a tough one in doubles with Cameron," said head coach
Diego Benitez. "We're very proud of how the guys bounced back and were able to dominate singles."
The Mavs fell behind in doubles to start the match.
Miguel Cabrera and
Angel Diaz defeated Maycon Biaz and Bruno Vietri 6-1 on Court Two, but that would be the lone doubles win.
Alejandro Hayen and
Alan Sau Franco dropped No. 1 singles 6-4 to Pierra Marion and Julen Gutierrez before
Solano Caffarena and
Ricardo Alban fell on Court Three 6-4 to Oscar del Granado and Carlos Vidal.
Needing four wins in singles, the Mavericks wasted no time.
Angel Diaz began the winning on Court One 6-3, 6-4. Sau Franco joined in with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gutierrez on Court Three before
Miguel Cabrera won 6-2, 6-3 on Court Two to put the Mavs one point away from victory.
Solano Caffarena and
Ricardo Alban won back-to-back to secure the win for the Mavericks, both winning 6-4, 6-2 on Courts Four and Five respectively.

"Our guys had a great bounce back in doubles after a tough one early in the day," said Benitez. "We played a lot more organized and were able to put points on the board quickly. Miguel [Cabrera] did a great job bouncing back after losing his first set and come back and get the win."
The Mavs came out hot, winning on Court Three in a 6-0 sweep before Court One and Two followed with 6-3 wins on both courts.
In singles play, every player won in straight sets beginning with
Alan Sau Franco and
Solano Caffarena in No. 3 and No. 4 singles, who both won 6-0, 6-1.
Angel Diaz followed on Court One with a 6-0, 6-4 win. Daichi Akiyohsi picked up his first win of the spring with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the No. 6 spot. Cabrera had to gut out a three set win. After dropping set one 6-3, he bounced back to take set two 6-0 and finished set three winning 10-7 to take the match.
Ricardo Alban was the final match to wrap up, but he took care of business just as the rest did, winning 6-3, 6-0 on Court Five.
