ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team improved to 4-0 on Saturday, picking up a pair of sweeps over UT Permian Basin and Oklahoma Baptist at the UTA Tennis Center.
UTA vs UTPB
The Mavericks cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Falcons in the first match of the day. In doubles action
Ricardo Alban and
Miguel Cabrera took court three 6-0, while
Eduard Simo and
Solano Caffarena won 6-1 on court two to earn the doubles point for the Mavericks.
Alejandro Hayen and
Alan Sau Franco were leading 5-1 on court one when their match was suspended.
In singles action,
Alan Sau Franco (Court Two),
Miguel Cabrera (Court Three),
Solano Caffarena (Court Four) and
Daichi Akiyoshi (Court Six) all won in straight sets over their opponents.
Alejandro Hayen (Court One) and
Eduard Simo (Court Five) had to battle to earn their victories and complete the sweep.
Hayen fell in the first set 6-4 but fought back to win the second set 7-6 before winning the first and final set 10-1. Simo also fell in set one, losing 7-6 but cruised to a 6-0 win in set two before winning the final set 10-4.
UTA vs Oklahoma Baptist
UTA jumped out to another 1-0 match lead after taking the doubles point over the Bison in match two of the day. The team of
Alejandro Hayen and
Alan Sau Franco took Court One with a score of 6-1, while
Solano Caffarena and
Eduard Simo won on Court Two 6-2.
Ricardo Alban and
Miguel Cabrera were winning 4-2 when the Mavericks captured the doubles point.
The Mavericks swept through singles action, but Simo and Sau Franco had to fight to pick up their points. Sau Franco won a three-set match over Gianlucca Galdi 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. Simo won on Court Five 6-3, 4-6, 10-4.
