Box Score WACO, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team had a strong showing at the ITA Texas Regional over the weekend in Waco. Miguel Cabrera made it to the semi-finals of his bracket.
 
In the Flight One singles bracket, no Maverick won their opening match, but Alan Sau Franco bounced back in his second match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Axel Vila Antuna (Lamar). He would lose his final match of the weekend to Franco Ribero (Texas Tech) 7-6(4), 3-6, 10/5.
 
Angel Diaz lost his first two matches but ended the weekend strong by defeating Leighton Allen (Texas) 6-3, 6-2.
 
In the Flight Two singles bracket, Cabrera opened the weekend with a win over Alejo Ferrer Chueca (Louisiana) 6-2, 6-3. In the quarterfinals, he took down Pascal Lorieul (A&M CC) 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3. Cabrera fell to the No. 1 seed Reed Collier (Texas Tech) in the semi-finals 6-1, 6-1.
 
Daichi Akiyoshi made it to the quarterfinals of the Flight Two singles bracket. He defeated Joshua Sundaram (Lamar) 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round before taking down Oriol Fillat Gimenez (Louisiana) 7-6(6), 6-4. Payton Holden (Texas), the No. 2 seed, would end Akiyoshi's weekend 7-5, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
 
In doubles play, Cabrera and Diaz defeated Chih Chi Huang and Eshan Talluri (Texas) in the White Doubles bracket 8-6 but fell to Baylor's Finn Bass and Spencer Furman 8-4.
 
In the Blue Doubles bracket, Solano Caffarena and Eduard Simo defeated Baylor's Rahul Dhokia and Sebasian Nothhaft 8-4. Micah Braswell and Jacob Bullard (Texas) ended the run for the Mavs in an 8-4 win.
 
The Mavericks will travel to Houston this weekend (Oct. 30-Nov. 1) to participate in the Bay Area Houston UTR Tournament.
