ARLINGTON – Four Lady Mavs scored in double figures as the UT Arlington women's basketball team picked up a 78-64 win over St. Edward's at the College Park Center on Sunday afternoon. The contest marked the first home game for UTA since the season-opener against Texas A&M-Commerce on November 25.
The Lady Mavs (1-1) won the rebounding battle 40-24 and dished out more assists that SEU (22-10). UTA forced the Hilltoppers into 14 turnovers, but committed 20 miscues of their own.
Shyia Smith finished with a team-high 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor and a perfect 2-of-2 from long distance. Smith also added a game-high eight rebounds and a pair of steals.
Jordynn Hernandez finished with 13 points and four assists, while
Camryn Hawkins chipped in with 13 points and six boards.
Bre Wickware added 12 points, six rebounds and six assists, while
Katie Ferrell dished out a career-high 10 assists to go with four points and six boards. Walk-on Michala Pullen-Moore finished with nine points, a pair of boards and two steals.
SEU had three players score in double figures, led by Christina Mason's game-high 16 points.
The Lady Mavs will return to action next weekend when they head to South Padre Island for the South Padre Classic (Dec. 18-19). UTA will face North Texas (Dec. 18) and UTRGV (Dec. 19) during the event to close out non-conference play.
