ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington men's golf team has added a new face to its 2021-22 roster as local product Trent Griessel has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Mavericks.
Growing up outside of Seattle in Redmond, Wash., Griessel moved to the Gulf Coast of Florida to attend IMG Academy for his sophomore year of high school. However, he has spent his junior year and now the first half of his senior year living in The Colony and attending Yorktown Education in Plano.
Griessel is currently coached by one of the most respected names in the business in Cameron McCormick, who is perhaps best known for coaching three-time major champion Jordan Spieth since he was 12. McCormick also coaches UTA junior
Kyle Cox – which is how Griessel originally formed a relationship and connection with he and the Mavericks.
"Trent loves the game of golf and he cannot wait to join us," said UTA head coach
Casey Devoll. "We're just as excited for him to be here as well; he already has a great relationship and rapport with some of our guys, so it should make for a seamless transition to the collegiate game. His game continues to get better, and his tournament results are very good and consistent."
Those tournament results have yielded top-15 finishes – including a runner-up showing – in his last two Texas Junior Golf Tour (TJGT) events. That 2nd-place position came last month at the North Texas Showcase at Bear Creek as he finished just one shot behind the tournament winner thanks to one of only two even-par final rounds in the entire field.
For the abbreviated/altered 2020-21 TJGT season, Griessel has posted a very respectable 72.62 scoring average in seven events. Griessel's personal-best tournament score is -10, and his best round in tournament play is a 65.
"The overwhelming support of Coach Devoll and the entire UTA family since I've signed has been unmatched," stated Griessel. "I am extremely excited to get started with the team next fall."
Griessel anticipates majoring in business. He completed his junior year of high school in 2019-20 with a 4.0 GPA.

THE NEW HOME OF UTA GOLF: Texas Rangers Golf Club
The recently-opened state-of-the-art Texas Rangers Golf Club is the new home of the UT Arlington's men's and women's golf programs. The world's only Major League Baseball-branded golf course, TRGC is the result of a $24 million renovation and updated routing of the former Chester W. Ditto Golf Course at Brown Boulevard and Collins Street, just a few miles north of UTA's campus. The Home of UTA Golf was designed by UTA alumni John Colligan and Trey Kemp of Arlington-based Colligan Golf Design. It features an expansive 23-acre practice area, and a new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse – set to open later this fall – will feature a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms and numerous rental and event spaces.
