NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Three Lady Mavs scored in double figures as the shorthanded UT Arlington women's basketball team fell to SFA (5-1), 79-57, at the
William R. Johnson Coliseum on Tuesday night. The contest marked the first game for UTA since the season-opener against Texas A&M-Commerce 14 days ago on November 25.
Playing without three players, including a pair of starters, the Lady Mavs (1-1) outrebounded the Ladyjacks 38-35. UTA struggled taking care of the ball, turning the rock over 24 times on the night.
Shyia Smith finished with a game-high 19 points to go with seven boards.
Bre Wickware added 13 points and four rebounds, while
Jordynn Hernandez earned her first start as a Lady Mav and finished with 11 points, three assists, two steals and a pair of rebounds.
Misty Dossey made her season-debut and chipped in with three points, five rebounds and four blocks, while freshman
Michala Pullen-Monroe knocked down a field goal to record her first collegiate points.
SFA had four players score in double figures, led by Zya Nugent's 16 points.
The Lady Mavs will return to action next weekend when they head to South Padre Island for the South Padre Classic (Dec. 18-19). UTA will face North Texas (Dec. 18) and UTRGV (Dec. 19) during the event to close out non-conference play.
