WICHITA, Kan. - The UT Arlington women's tennis team rebounded from a Saturday loss to Wichita State by defeating Tulane 4-2 at the Coleman Tennis Complex on Sunday morning. The Mavs move to 5-2 on the season with the win.
"Tulane is always a very good team at the top of their conference," said Head Coach
Diego Benitez. "I'm very proud of the girls and their aggressive plays in singles. They applied all the patterns we've been practicing and were able to step up and close the match."
In double competition,
Polina Akimova and
Nanaka Takeuchi took it straight ot the Green Wave, winning a quick 6-1 match in the No. 1 spot.
Momoka Horiguchi and
Lucia Natal followed suit with a 6-3 win on Court Two to put the Mavericks up 1-0 after the doubles point.
Singles play turned into a battle for the teams.
Almudena Boza secured the second point for the Mavericks with a 6-1, 6-3 win on Court Six.
Liz Chileno put the Mavericks one point away from victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win on Court Two, but the Green Wave started getting points of their own. Tulane won the singles points on Court One and Court Three, but
Lucia Natal put an end to the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win on Court Four.
The Mavericks will stay on the road when they travel to Houston to take on Houston (Feb. 28) and UConn (Feb. 29) next weekend.
