ARLINGTON – Three Lady Mavs scored in double figures as UTA led wire-to-wire in a 63-44 win over App State on Thursday night (Feb. 6) at College Park Center.
With the win, UTA improves to 13-9 on the season and 7-3 in conference, while Appalachian State drops to 6-15 on the year and 3-7 in Sun Belt play.
Marie Benson led the Lady Mavs with a game-high 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Terryn Milton added 13 points, eight boards, five assists and three steals. Aysia Evans chipped in with 11 points and a pair of assists, while Katie Ferrell finished with five points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Bre Wickware registered six points and two rebounds off the bench.
UTA shot 41.7 percent (25-of-60) from the floor and held App State to 35.8 percent (19-of-53) from the field. The Lady Mavericks knocked down nine three-pointers on the night, which are the most triples UTA has hit this season since burying 11 treys at App State on Jan. 9. The Lady Mavs edged the Mountaineers in the rebounding battle 38-32 and forced App State into 15 miscues.
UTA jumped out to an early advantage and would control the contest all night, shooting 56.3 percent from the floor in the opening period to take a 22-11 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
The Lady Mavs would lead by double digits the rest of the contest, cruising to the 19-point win (63-44).
The Lady Mavericks will be back in action Saturday when they host Coastal Carolina (18-3, 8-2 SBC) at College Park Center. The contest, which is set to tip-off at 2:00 p.m., will serve as the 'UTA Beats Cancer' contest that will raise funds and awareness for the cause.
