ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team finished their home-stand to open the season with a 5-2 win over UTSA on Saturday at the UTA Tennis Center to improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Mavericks picked up the doubles point, but it didn't start well.Â
Momoka Horiguchi and
Liz Chileno fell on Court One 6-0. However,
Nanaka Takeuchi and
Polina Akimova immediately followed with a win on Court Two to tie the doubles matches at one a piece with a 6-2 win.Â
Almudena Boza and
Carla Pons finished doubles with a 6-1 win on Court Three to give the Mavs the point.

The Mavericks continued their winning into singles action. Horiguchi took home a win on Court Two 6-2, 6-0 before
Liz Chileno put the Mavs up 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win on Court Three.Â
Polina Akimova fell in No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-3 and
Nanaka Takeuchi fell in No. 5 singles 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.Â
Carla Pons wrapped up the victory for the Mavericks with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 win before
Lucia Natal put the icing on the cake a three-set win on Court Four 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.

The Mavericks will have the next two weeks off before returning to action when they hit the road to take on Wichita State on Feb. 21.
