CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced its annual All-American Scholars on Monday, and UT Arlington was well represented with six student-athletes named to the prestigious list:
Sydney Garber,
Madigan Murray,
Kate Tran,
Janane Tan,
Connor Howard and
Kinsey Ray.
Â
The criteria for selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team are among some of the most stringent in all of collegiate athletics with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 needed to be included on the team. In addition, members must have competed in at least 50 percent of the rounds completed by the team in 2019-20.
Â
Under those parameters, every UTA women's golf member who qualified earned a spot on the team.
Abigail Adams – who was named a WGCA All-American Scholar in 2018-19 – qualified from a GPA standpoint in 2019-20, but an injury forced her to miss the entire fall season. She only competed in three of the team's 21 rounds during the coronavirus-shortened season, thus not qualifying from that standpoint; otherwise, UTA would have had every team member recognized as WGCA All-American Scholars.
Â
Garber, Murray, Howard and Tran are all now two-time members of the WGCA All-American Scholar Team after earning spots on the team last year as well.
Â
With six members on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team, UTA is tied for the most representation among all Sun Belt Conference schools along with Arkansas State.
Â
As a seven-member squad, the UTA women's golf team produced an astonishing and department-best 3.89 team GPA this past spring; five team members had perfect 4.0 GPAs, while two were between 3.5 and 3.99.
Â
UTA returns every member of the roster in 2020-21 as the program enters its fourth season of competition. The Mavs have bettered their performance every season, highlighted by the following noteworthy numbers:
- After holding a 312.24 team scoring average in its first-ever season in 2017-18, UTA lowered that score to 309.64 in 2018-19 and continued its progress with a program-best 307.43 in 2019-20.
Â
- UTA's national ranking also lowered again: #208 in 2017-18 to #173 in 2018-19 to #160 in 2019-20.
Â
- The Mavs' finish percentage continued the same trajectory: 24.2 percent in 2017-18 to 34.9 percent in 2018-19 to 55.6 percent in 2019-20.

THE NEW HOME OF UTA GOLF: Texas Rangers Golf Club
The recently-opened state-of-the-art Texas Rangers Golf Club is the new home of the UT Arlington's men's and women's golf programs. The world's only Major League Baseball-branded golf course, TRGC is the result of a $24 million renovation and updated routing of the former Chester W. Ditto Golf Course at Brown Boulevard and Collins Street, just a few miles north of UTA's campus. The Home of UTA Golf was designed by UTA alumni John Colligan and Trey Kemp of Arlington-based Colligan Golf Design. It features an expansive 23-acre practice area, and a new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse – set to open in early 2020 – will feature a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms and numerous rental and event spaces.
