
@UTAMavsTFXC’s Butterfield Named Academic First Team All-District

ARLINGTON – On the strength of his work in the classroom and in competition, UT Arlington's Connor Butterfield has been named to the 2019-20 Academic All-District First Team for Men's Track & Field and Cross Country as selected by CoSIDA members.

Butterfield, who just completed his junior year academically, carried a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in finance. He was selected to the District 7 Team, which includes all Division-I schools in Texas, Oklahoma, Nevada, New Mexico, Nebraska, Kansas, Idaho and Colorado.

With his First Team All-District selection, Butterfield will automatically advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America selections are scheduled to be announced on June 25.

On the cross-country circuit this past fall, he participated in six meets and scored points for the Mavericks at the Sun Belt Championship with a 29th-place finish (8k, 26:01.6). He also qualified for the NCAA South Central Regional meet, clocking a 10k time of 32:11.5.

During the indoor track and field season, he finished 6th in the mile (4:18.61) to score points for UTA at the Sun Belt Championship. He posted a season-best 4:18.02 in the mile at the Ted Nelson Invitational.

The outdoor track and field season was canceled in mid-March due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.
