LITTLE ROCK – Three players scored in double figures as the UTA women's basketball team extended its win streak to four games with a 55-50 win over Little Rock on Friday night at the Jack Stephens Center. UTA outscored the home team 14-8 over the six minutes of the game and held the Trojans to just 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from the floor in the final period to secure the victory.
With the win, UTA improves to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in Sun Belt play, while the Trojans fall to 5-5 on the season and 1-2 in league action. The victory also gives the Lady Mavs their fourth win in the last five meetings with Little Rock.
Terryn Milton, who picked up her 250th career assist in the 3rd quarter, knocked down 6-of-14 shots from the field and 1-of-1 from the charity stripe to finish with her team-high 13 points. The junior also added five assist and three boards in the win.
Jordynn Hernandez added 11 points, three steals and three rebounds, while
Shyia Smith added 10 points and five rebounds.
Misty Dossey chipped in with eight points and five rebounds and
Emma Halverson scored five points to go with a team-high seven rebounds.
Katie Ferrell, who entered the game with 499 career rebounds, pulled down five boards to eclipse the 500 career rebound milestone.
Ky'lie Scott led Little Rock with a game-high 19 points, while Krystan Vomes registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Mavs, who held their 4th consecutive opponent below 55 points, limited Little Rock to single digit points in the first and fourth quarters. UTA's defense forced the home team into 20 turnovers and held the Trojans to 18-of-55 (32.7 percent) shooting from the field.
UT Arlington won the battle of the boards 35-34 and outscored Little Rock 30-24 in points in the paint.
The two teams will meet again Saturday afternoon with a 4:00 p.m. tipoff at the Jack Stephens Center.
