ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team overcame a doubles point loss to defeat Central Oklahoma 5-2 in a hard-fought match that came down to the final two matches.
 
The Bronchos took the doubles points after taking the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. 
Polina Akimova and 
Lucia Natal fell on court one 6-0, while 
Momoka Horiguchi and 
Liz Chileno fell 6-3 on court two.  
Carla Pons and 
Almudena Boza were leading 5-3 when their match was called.
 
UCO continued their winning ways by taking No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-1 over 
Liz Chileno. With their backs against the wall, the Mavericks quickly tied up the match with wins at No. 6 from Boza (6-3, 6-2) and No. 5 from Pons (6-3, 6-2). 
Polina Akimova put the Mavs on top with a 6-3, 6-1 win on court three before 
Lucia Natal clinched the match by wining No. 4 singles 7-5, 6-3.
 
With the final match still to finish, Horiguchi fought to give the Mavs one more point.  After winning set one 6-4, she fell 3-6 in set two.  Leading 4-1, it appeared Horiguchi had the match in the bag, but Adel-ByanuAbidullina battled back to force a tiebreaker set.  Horiguchi rolled in the tiebreaker, winning 6-3 to win the match 7-6.
 
The Mavericks will be back in action next Saturday with a double header against Tarleton (10 a.m.) and Cameron (2 p.m.) at the UTA Tennis Center.
