ARLINGTON – Bre Wickware recorded career-highs in points (25) and rebounds (11) as the UTA women's basketball team extended its win streak to three games with a 61-37 win over ULM on Saturday night at College Park Center.
With the win, UTA improves to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in Sun Belt play, while ULM falls to 2-6 on the season and 0-2 in league action.
Wickware knocked down 8-of-15 shots from the field, 3-of-5 from behind the arc and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe to finish with her game-high and career-high 25 points. In addition to a career-high 11 boards that secured her second career double-double, Wickware also tallied a pair of assists.
Shyia Smith added 10 points and three rebounds, while
Terryn Milton chipped in with nine points, five assists, three rebounds and three steals.
Katie Ferrell stuffed the stat sheet and finished with five points, six assists and seven boards.
The Lady Mavs, who held ULM to 37 points for the second consecutive game, held the visitors to 15 pts in the second half. In the 2-game series, UTA allowed the Warhawks just 26 points combined in the second half. The Lady Mavericks forced 19 turnovers and turned those miscues into 22 points.
The UTA defense made it tough on the visitors for the second night in a row. ULM was held to just 28 percent (14-of-50) shooting from the field and 0-of-9 from behind the arc.
UTA will hit the road for the first time in conference play when they open a four-game roadtrip at Louisiana for a pair of contests next weekend, Jan. 15-16. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
