JONESBORO, Ark. – The UT Arlington volleyball team (4-12, 2-5 Sun Belt) picked up its first road win of the season on Thursday, defeating Arkansas State 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 5-25, 25-22) in Jonesboro.
The Mavericks finished with 43 kills, led
Brooke Townsend and
Brianna Ford's 10 kill performances. UTA was paced by
Kylee Kapp (18 assists) and
Mollie Blank (14 assists).
Defensively,
Alli Wells led UTA with 22 digs, while
Kainah Williams ended with a team-high five blocks.
SET 1 | UTA 25, ASU 23 | UTA LEADS 1-0
Runs defined the first set from the start with the Mavericks winning the first three points. With UTA leading 11-7, the Red Wolves used an 8-0 run to take a 15-11 lead midway through the set. The Mavs battled back, using a series of 3-0 runs to get within two points of the Red Wolves at 23-21.
Briana Brown jumpstarted a 4-0 run to end the set, capped with blocks from
Kainah Williams and
Brianna Ford to give the Mavericks the win.
SET 2 | UTA 25, ASU 23 | UTA LEADS 2-0
The Mavericks jumped out to a 5-2 lead after an ace from
Mollie Blank. The Red Wolves rattled off five straight to take a 5-7 lead. The teams traded runs until the Mavericks took a 19-15 lead on a 6-1 run, capped with a kill from
Briana Brown. The Red Wolves cut the lead to one point, but UTA held off any comeback, taking set two 25-23.
SET 3 | UTA 5, ASU 25 | UTA LEADS 2-1
The Red Wolves started the set on a 17-0 run before a service error gave UTA their first point. A-State continued their momentum, taking the third set.
SET 4 | UTA 25, ASU 22 | UTA WINS 3-1
The Mavericks bounced back in set four, jumping out to an early 9-6 lead following a service ace from
Kainah Williams. UTA extended their lead to as many as six (17-11) before the Red Wolves were able to respond. A-State cut the Maverick lead to one point, but
Monica LaFleur sparked a 4-2 run to end the set to give the Mavericks the set and the match.

The Mavericks will stay in Arkansas and travel to Little Rock to take on the Trojans on Saturday (Oct.16) at 6 p.m.
