WACO, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team fell to No. 21 Baylor Wednesday night in Waco, Texas at Getterman Stadium. The Mavericks held the Bears to a close contest (3-1) until Baylor's bats broke out in the bottom of the sixth adding three more runs on the board ending with a score of 6-1.
Senior
Aileen Garcia led the Mavs going 2-3 with two singles followed by
Sophie Wideman going 1-2 for the day. Sophomore
Jadyn Erickson finished the day with one hit joined by center fielder
Reagan Hukill who knocked in the only run of the game for the Mavs.
Freshman
Gracie Bumpurs earned her second start in the circle this season for the Mavs. She threw three innings then was replaced by Jojo Valencia in the fourth inning. Gardiner allowed three runs in her two innings pitched while
Kenedy Hines came in for the last defensive inning for the Mavs.

- Aileen Garcia reached first on a single to left field then advanced to second on a past ball. Freshman Dariane Cram pinch ran for Garcia at second.
- Senior KJ Murphy rolled a stellar 5-4-3 double play in the hot corner to end the inning.
- Reagan Hukill smacked an RBI-double in the top of the fourth scoring Cram from second getting UTA on the board with their first run of the game to cut the deficit to two (3-1).
- Baylor's offense took off in the bottom of the sixth with a homerun and a double to extend the lead 6-1.
Aileen Garcia currently leads the team with a .400 batting average going 4-10 over the first 3 games this season.
ON DECK
UTA will head to San Antonio for the three-day UTSA Classic beginning Feb. 26. The Mavericks are set to face Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, Kansas and host UTSA. The first game is scheduled to begin Friday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi at Roadrunner Field.
